Mike Murphy

Have you ever wondered why the federal
government just doesn’t get it?

How can the bureaucrats and politicians in Washington spend our money, mortgage our children’s future and stand idly by as east coast financial elites dip into our pockets so they can keep their private jets and their bonuses?

When did it become okay for the federal government to interfere in the lives of our families on a scale not seen since the days of Franklin Roosevelt? What happened to the 10th Amendment that reserves to the people those powers not granted Congress by the Constitution?

Like you, I’ve been asking these same questions lately, and the answers disturb me. The fact is that the federal government is out of touch, out of money and out of sync with the Hoosier common sense we take for granted.

That’s why I am running for Congress in Indiana’s 5th district.

I want the American Dream to be available to my children and yours, just as it has been for you and me. Unfortunately, that prospect is endangered and could slip away unless the attitude changes in Washington. For too long, greed and love of power have been the guiding principles in our Capital. When I represent you in Congress, that will change.

My entire adult life has been spent solving problems for my neighbors, based on the conservative core principles of limited government, personal responsibility and Hoosier resourcefulness.

I am the only potential candidate for the 5th district who has the significant legislative experience necessary to reach bipartisan solutions to our most nagging problems.

I have proven my effectiveness year after year:

When I discovered all Hoosiers were not benefiting from the great gains we have made in Internet technology, I partnered with Senator Brandt Hershman to author the most sweeping reform of the telecommunications industry in the nation. We unleashed the free market to provide innovative broadband products and services that are spreading across our state.
THE RESULT? $1.5 billion dollars in new investment in Indiana and thousands of new jobs. Governor Daniels says this was one of the three greatest accomplishments during his first term.

When I studied our tax code, I discovered that our families are double taxed when they inherit a farm or other property from loved ones. I successfully pushed to eliminate the inheritance tax for one-half of all Hoosier estates.
THE RESULT? Thousands of Hoosier families have kept millions of dollars to use as they see fit.

When Washington politicians refused to include coal in their energy strategy, I authored successful legislation that created the Clean Coal Technology Research Center at Purdue University.
THE RESULT? The Center is now producing new methods for making Indiana coal part of our nation’s energy future.

When I discovered that judges’ hands were tied when dangerous criminals requested bail, I partnered with then-Senator Murray Clark to pass sweeping bail reform. Now judges can consider the safety of the community when deciding whether to grant bail.
THE RESULT? Fewer dangerous criminals on the streets and safer neighborhoods. This is one more example of Hoosier common sense.

A national radio talk show host recently asked me what advice I had for the National Republican Party. I said, “Tell the Washington insiders to come to Greenfield, Indiana, to Marion or Westfield. See how we live and how we work together to solve problems. It’s pretty simple. If it’s good for our neighbors and our neighbors’ neighbors, it’s probably a good idea.”

If you want a dose of Hoosier common sense added to the debate in Washington, if you want a proven problem-solver as your advocate, please support my candidacy for Congress.
