State Representative Mike Murphy, candidate for Indiana's 5th U.S. Congressional District, has released the comprehensive 'Murphy Plan,' a series of substantive policy proposals. The plan is based on Murphy’s 15 years of solving problems for Hoosiers and on the expertise of some of our state’s most talented thinkers, including former Lt. Governor John Mutz, who joined Murphy at the Statehouse for an announcement about the release.
The nearly 70-page plan is the strongest statement by any Indiana congressional candidate to frame critical steps to put Hoosiers back to work through a series of initiatives in critical sectors of our national economy. The “Murphy Plan” includes sections on Agriculture, Defense, Education, Energy, Health Care, and Jobs. Each honors the principles of free markets, less government, lower taxes, and personal responsibility.

State Representative Mike Murphy released some polling data that shows the race for Indiana's Fifth District seat is wide open. A poll conducted in late January (with a margin of error ±5.6%) by Bellwether Research, Inc. of Alexandria, VA (a company used by Governor Mitch Daniels) indicates that only 28% of likely voters in the 5th District Republican primary think Burton should be re-elected. That is a 7-point drop from a similar poll conducted by the same firm in February, 2009. Meanwhile likely Republican primary voters say Murphy is equal to or ahead of other potential challengers when asked “Which candidate, if any, do you think stands the best chance against Dan Burton? ” Murphy was given the nod by 16% of poll respondents.
